If you’re limited …
If you’re limited to what you have to exercise with, nothing wrong with using lighter weights. You still can get there, just do more reps. Your body will tell you when to stop when you start to feel a “burn”.

When starting take it easy. The biggest mistake many make (including me) is trying to do too much too soon. It just sets you back and causes injury. Then you kick yourself.

Theegamedude, if …
Theegamedude, if you have access to various weights make a best guess, then see how well you can do ONE curl. If easily done, keep adding weight until you can barely complete one curl after reasonable rest from the last attempt. Now back off and use between 60-75% of that weight. You should now be able to do 6-8 reps. That would be your rough starting point. Once it becomes easy, add weight ,reps or sets a couple weeks or so after.

when i go to the …
when i go to the gym and see people using their back and swinging their arms to curl 45′s it honestly makes me laugh when im sitting there twice as big as these guys using half the weight and getting twice the workout just because i am doing it properly, one time i told a guy that he was not doing it correct and he was like this is how i see it done on tv haha

What’s a good starting weight for a 40 year old who hasn’t worked out in like a year?

Here’s my take, if …
Here’s my take, if you’re going to curl both arms at once, you may as well be using a barbell, then you can change hand positions and more accurately hit areas that need more work. You also should be able to lift more weight that way. That isn’t to say don’t use barbells, just mix things up. If you do one arm curls you generally tend to focus more, at least I do. So there’s no right answer really.

If you look back to …
If you look back to the comment I was referring to the dude said wing in reference to a muscle, NOT a bone.

Your bones may get heavier as you work them out, but you definitely don’t hear people saying “Hey! Look at that guys wing bone! It’s really heavy!!!” lol…

BeefStuMovie May 3, 2009 at 8:13 am

Do you have to do …
Do you have to do each bicep curl at the same time, cos i do mine one after the other arm… is that wrong? Also, what are the bicep curls where you twist the dumbbell, as i do those. What are better, these or the twist ones?

Continue, but …
Continue, but always do a variety of exercises. You can “feel” a difference doing bicep curls when you use barebells as opposed to dumbbells as opposed to some machine. For example I still use my old Soloflex I got over 20 years ago and I get a better burn doing bicep curls with that and some tricep exercies than anything else I’ve tried.

You can’t just pick a favorite exercies and stick just with that and only add reps or sets or even more weight. Mix it up for best results.

Doesn’t matter if …
Doesn’t matter if you do,10,000 crunches a day if you still have too much body fat you’ll never see your abs. The key is get your body fat down. If you don’t know what it is get a bathroom scale that shows it. Also check it at specifc time since it can vary. The lowest and usually most accurate time to measure is late afternoon. For most people you need to get your body fat below 16%. Then you should begin to see something. Get down to 8-12% to get ripped looking.

Hello , i got a …
o , i got a little problem about the “time” i need to train to reach “good” muscles.

At this moment i train each day:

4 x 350 Crunches
4 x 250 Reverse Crunches
4 x 90 Weight Lifts

on advice of a friend. Now , i got the question: How long does it take to have a “good” result. And are there ways to get it faster/better ? That’s why i post the amounts that i do. I hope anybody can give me “+-” how long it will takes and some improvements

THX

pah – 15 reps? Train to faliure in 4-6, always – or you’ll be there forever.

willieofroanoke May 3, 2009 at 8:13 am

That’s a old …
That’s a old bodybuilder fairytale.

Define “heavy” for me.

Just thing about it. If you had to lift “heavy” to grow, then if true once you grew to point X, to get to point Y you would need to lift that much more, then more still to get to point Z and so on. In no time you’d need to lift so much you couldn’t get the weight on the bar. You’d see pro bodybuilders trying to curl 80, 100, 150, 200 pounds. Can’t be done.
